AbstractIntensitas penggunaan Instagram pada mahasiswa berpotensi memicu terjadinya upward social comparison terhadap pencapaian akademik teman sebaya. Perbandingan tersebut dapat menghasilkan tekanan emosional maupun dorongan motivasional, bergantung pada strategi regulasi emosi yang diterapkan individu. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk melihat hubungan antara regulasi emosi yang mencakup cognitive reappraisal dan expressive suppression dengan kecenderungan upward social comparison pada mahasiswa pengguna Instagram. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Partisipan terdiri atas 400 mahasiswa berusia 18-24 tahun yang menggunakan Instagram minimal dua jam setiap hari. Pengukuran dilakukan menggunakan Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) dan Academic Social Comparison (ASCS) versi Bahasa Indonesia. Data dianalisis dengan melalui uji realibilitas, statistik dekskriptif, serta korelasi Spearman. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa cognitive reappraisal berkorelasi positif signifikan dengan upward social comparison (r = 0,499, p < 0,01), begitu pula expressive suppression (r = 0,626, p < 0,01). Tidak terdapat perbedaan signifikan berdasarkan jenis kelamin maupun durasi penggunaan Instagram per hari. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa regulasi emosi berkontribusi pada kecenderungan mahasiswa membandingkan prestasi akademik dengan figur unggul di Instagram. Implikasi penelitian menyoroti pentingnya intervensi psikoedukasi regulasi emosi serta literasi media bagi mahasiswa.
