Dari Kantor Pos ke Pos Bloc: Transformasi Warisan Kolonial Menjadi Lokasi Kegiatan UMKM Kota Medan

Studi ini mengkaji perubahan Kantor Pos Medan, sebuah bangunan warisan kolonial yang dibangun antara tahun 1909–1911 oleh arsitek Belanda Simon Snuyf, menjadi Pos Bloc Medan yang berperan sebagai ruang kreatif publik dan tempat aktivitas Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM). Latar belakang penelitian ini berasal dari penurunan peran kantor pos akibat digitalisasi layanan komunikasi yang menimbulkan tantangan dalam menjaga keberadaan bangunan bersejarah. Metode yang diterapkan adalah observasi lapangan non-partisipatif, yaitu dengan mengamati secara langsung keadaan bangunan, penataan ruang, serta aktivitas UMKM tanpa melakukan tanya jawab. Informasi diperoleh melalui pencatatan, dokumentasi gambar, dan observasi langsung di tempat. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Pos Bloc Medan bukan hanya lambang pelestarian arsitektur kolonial, tetapi juga berhasil berfungsi sebagai pusat kegiatan ekonomi kreatif bagi masyarakat. Keberadaan UMKM dalam sektor kuliner, kerajinan, dan produk kreatif menunjukkan peran penting Pos Bloc sebagai tempat pemberdayaan ekonomi serta galeri sejarah yang mengingatkan kembali peran kantor pos di era kolonial. Transformasi Kantor Pos Medan menjadi Pos Bloc mencerminkan strategi pelestarian warisan kolonial yang fleksibel, di mana nilai sejarah dan arsitektur tetap terjaga sambil memenuhi tuntutan sosial ekonomi masyarakat kontemporer.
