Abstract

Manipulating fabric merupakan sebuah ide dalam menggunakan teknik tertentu untuk mengubah tampilan dan nuansa dari permukaan selembar bahan tekstil. Salah satu teknik klasik yang memiliki fleksibilitas tinggi namun sering kali hanya dipandang sebagai elemen fungsional sederhana adalah teknik tucking (lipit jarum). Penelitian eksperimen ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji karakteristik visual, prosedur teknis pembuatan, serta rekomendasi pengaplikasian dari 8 ragam variasi teknik tucking, yaitu wide-narrow, centered, cross, random direction, tapered, cross-stitched, honeycomb, dan countered tucks. Metode yang digunakan dalam kajian ini adalah metode eksperimen kualitatif deskriptif melalui pembuatan sampel kerja (swatch) untuk masing-masing teknik dengan menggunakan material kain katun. Dari eksperimen yang dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa setiap variasi tucking menghasilkan karakter tekstur tiga dimensi (3D) yang berbeda-beda. Kestabilan jahitan dan daya tahan terhadap panas setrika pada penggunaan kain katun membuat lipatan yang tegas, presisi dan permanen dibandingkan dengan kain yang melangsai. Melalui eksplorasi ini, teknik klasik berhasil berkembang menjadi lebih dekoratif dan inovatif.
