Penelitian ini membahas pentingnya pelestarian sastra lisan Simalungun sebagai bagian dari identitas budaya masyarakat. Sastra lisan memiliki fungsi tidak hanya sebagai media komunikasi, tetapi juga sebagai sarana pewarisan nilai moral, adat istiadat, dan kearifan lokal secara turun-temurun. Namun, perkembangan teknologi dan perubahan pola komunikasi masyarakat menyebabkan eksistensi tradisi lisan semakin menurun, khususnya di kalangan generasi muda. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran sastra lisan dalam mempertahankan nilai budaya serta relevansinya di tengah perkembangan zaman. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan analisis deskriptif. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa sastra lisan masih memiliki nilai penting sebagai media edukasi dan pembentukan karakter, sehingga upaya pelestarian perlu terus dilakukan agar warisan budaya tidak hilang.
